I see the bad reviews of this hospital and I kind of get it. It’s frustrating navigating the phone line system, and the people who run the foreign clinic clearly did really well in school English class, but when it comes to speaking with real people, it’s a little bit problematic, and lots of Korean people take for granted what they know, and are not able to explain to foreigners or those of us outside of the system how anything works.
That said, this hospital treats a massive volume of patients each day. It’s not really a place you go to have a casual chat/check-in with your doctor. You need to come with a problem that you’re ready to have diagnosed or treated. The doctors here see like 60-80 patients a day - they have 10 min to see you. I know for some people that doesn’t work and it might not be the best place for you. The wait for an appointment can be insane (like 5-6 months sometimes), which is why as a patient you have to be very proactive about staying on top of your care. But also, you ARE trying to see the top experts in that specialty in the entire country.
My experience here was easily the most superb medical care I have ever received in my entire life. 90 minutes from entering the building until being discharged.
This involved everything from intake, diagnostics, imaging & ultrasound, therapeutics/treatment, and finally education in physical therapy (i was visiting orthopedics) for a chronic and unmanaged condition. The whole process was so smooth and well choreographed. Without insurance because I’m not a resident of Korea, including two months worth of prescriptions and all of the treatment, I still only paid US$400.
The hospital features absolutely state-of-the-art science and technology, modern high-tech building premises and facilities dedicated to each individual department, and they practice in every known area of Medicine as well as subspecialities so there’s very little jumping around from place to place. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and on top of all your info, and the doctors are truly and certifiably the foremost experts in their field. It is actually unbelievable to me that I was able to do all of the things that I did in that 90 minutes for that price at that level and quality. Would never happen in the US.
