Dr. Nihal Durmus Kocaaslan is an Associate Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Marmara University. Kocaaslan holds TPRECD and EBOPRAS certifications (2013). Kocaaslan became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2021. Kocaaslan has served as a Forensic Expert at the Ministry of Justice since 2019. Kocaaslan earned a PhD in Forensic Medicine in 2020.
Expertise includes orthognathic, maxillofacial, and jaw surgery, as well as cleft lip and palate and other congenital anomalies. Kocaaslan also specializes in breast and chest wall reconstruction, chronic wound repair, and aesthetic surgery.
International training includes reconstructive microsurgery at RWTH Aachen. It also includes breast, face, and body aesthetics at clinics in the United States and cleft care at Seattle Children’s. Kocaaslan trained in craniosynostosis at Erasmus University Rotterdam and in maxillofacial and orthognathic surgery at St. George’s Hospital. Kocaaslan is a board member of EPCD and active in wound care and cleft associations. Memberships include ACS, ISAPS, the American Cleft Palate Foundation, and AO Craniofacial.
