Prof. dr Yasef rozpoczął studia medyczne na Uniwersytecie w Stambule w 1973 r. i ukończył Wydział Lekarski Cerrahpaşa Uniwersytetu w Stambule w 1979 r. Rozpoczął specjalizację z neurologii na tym samym uniwersytecie w 1980 r. i został neurologiem w 1985 r. Podczas szkolenia specjalistycznego spędził 6 miesięcy na Uniwersytecie Hacettepe w Katedrze Neurologii w Ankarze.
Po zostaniu neurologiem odbył 3,5 roku obowiązkowej służby rządowej, spędzając pierwsze 1,5 roku w Szpitalu Marynarki Wojennej Iskenderun, a następne 2 lata w Szpitalu Ubezpieczeń Społecznych Diyarbakır. Wrócił na Uniwersytet w Stambule w 1989 roku.
